Six people killed suspected drone attack on airport Kurdish region in northern Iraq.

At least six people have been killed in a suspected drone attack on an airport near the city of Sulaymaniyah in the semi-autonomous Kurdish region of northern Iraq, official sources told Al Jazeera.
Al Jazeera‘s Mahmoud Abdulwahed reported from the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, that Sulaymaniyah’s security forces had captured Arbat Airport, 50 kilometers (30 miles) east of Sulaymaniyah. Used by “anti-terrorist” combat forces. It is still not known if all the victims were from counter-terrorism agencies,” he said.

The airport was previously used for agricultural purposes. Police sources told Reuters that two members of the Kurdish security forces were wounded in the attack and rushed to a high-security military hospital in Sulaymiyah.
Al Jazeera correspondent Abdul Wahid said Turkish drones have been circling the area for the past three days.

Sulaymaniyah province is home to anti-Turkish and anti-Iranian groups, both of which have carried out airstrikes in and around Sulaymaniyah,” Al Jazeera’s Abdul Wahid said, adding that we still do not know who was behind the attack.
The attack came on a day when Iraq’s federal government granted more funds to the government of the semi-autonomous Kurdish region to pay salaries.
