About ARNC

The ARNC represents more than 25 local and regional cable news channels and all-news stations owned or operated by respected media companies including Belo, Cablevision, Comcast, Cox, Dispatch Broadcasting, Hearst Corporation, Landmark, McGraw-Hill, Time Warner Cable, Tribune and others.

The goal of the ARNC is to encourage and promote the role of 24-hour local and regional television news organizations in fostering and preserving the highest journalistic standards of the news media.

News channels are not a homogenous group. They may focus on providing news and information to a region comprised of several states or cities that share common concerns, interests or identity. (Examples: NECN, NWCN, TXCN, ONN, RNN and CN8)

Alternatively, a news channel may bring a hyper-local focus to their coverage concentrating on a single metropolitan area. (Examples: NY1, the local News 12 networks, Bay News 9, CLTV, Las Vegas 1, RNews, News 8 Austin, Six News Now)

News channels may originate their own content, repurpose content from co-owned broadcast or print news organizations, or operate on a hybrid model of both content creation and sharing. (Examples of news channel primarily relying on repurposing of local broadcast news content: NewsChannel 5+ in Nashville, NewsWatch 15 in New Orleans, NewsChannel 15 in San Diego, News on One in Omaha.)

Increasingly, news channels are also moving into providing online content, radio news content, Spanish language news (NY1 Noticias, Bay News en Espanol, Arizona Mas) as well as 24-hour weather and traffic content on cable with the goal of providing convenient, on-demand access to news and information.
